Are you ready for an awesome pageant weekend with your child??! Here are some tips to ensure that you and your child are as prepared as you can be for your upcoming pageant. Keep in mind that all pageants are not the same.
· Read paperwork and then reread paperwork- directors make sure that they provide you with all the information needed for their system. It is the parent’s job to look over that information. If there is anything that you are unclear or unsure about, reach out to the director and ask questions so that you are 100% clear on what is to be expected.
· Have paperwork ready with time limits, and any modeling restrictions for us coaches so we ensure that we are giving your child the best routine possible for that pageant.
· It is very important for your child to practice their routines as much as possible before the pageant. Even if they’ve done the routine many times, through practicing they can improve on their routine and make it better for when it hits the stage. For little ones it may be tough to get them to practice but make it fun for them so that they are motivated to do their routines. Be sure to let them know when they are doing something really great and fabulous, so that they don’t feel as though their hard work is being unnoticed.
·Always do a full dress run through, with props if any, before hitting the stage with an outfit for the first time. This way you have time to work out any kinks and areas where there may possibly be a wardrobe malfunction.
·Don’t focus on the negative, if a child forgets or “messes up” keep them motivated to finish their other routines strong.
·Be their #1 fan. It takes a lot to get up on the stage, whether this is your child’s 1st pageant or 10th pageant, or if they’re 4 or 12 years old. It is always great for them to hear someone cheering them on from the audience especially their Family and friends.
Pageant Checklist
General checklist (may vary depending on pageant):
o Beauty Dress, shoes, 2 pairs of white socks (little ones), jewelry, hair accessories
o Casual wear, shoes, jewelry, hair accessories
o Swimwear, shoes, jewelry, hair accessories, butt glue, cover-up or robe so that child doesn’t walk around hotel in swimsuit
o Outfit of Choice (OOC), shoes, jewelry, hair accessories
o Music (I suggest buying a small Cd case to store all Cd’s in so that all of your music is together, and can be easily stored in your purse)
o Props, if any
o Crowning outfit, dress, accessories
o Pictures (Natural, Glitz, Print model, Compcard, Series, etc. –It’s best to bring all of your pictures and then select which ones to ultimately enter than to leave pics at home and accidently leave your highest scoring pic at home; I suggest getting a photo bag)
o Hair pieces, hot rollers, head and head stand, roller bag
o Flipper, eyelashes, nails
o Her favorite snacks to keep energized throughout the day
o Strutter gear
